NIPA Pushes to Improve 'Public and Regional Healthcare Services' with AI

The National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) held a launch event on the 12th at the El Tower in Yangjae with the six newly selected consortiums for the '2024 AI-Based Medical System Digital Transformation Support' project. The Ministry of Science and ICT and NIPA have been running a digital transformation support project for public medical institutions since last year, aimed at bridging public and regional healthcare gaps and improving the quality of medical services. Consortiums for this year's new project support have also been selected. A total of 18 consortiums applied for this project, and three consortiums per track were ultimately selected. Each selected consortium will receive up to 2 billion KRW over a maximum of two years.

Last year, hospitals served as the lead organizations forming consortiums to carry out the project, but this year the consortiums are centered around ICT companies, with plans to focus on fostering digital healthcare. In particular, a new track has been added for the validation and dissemination of specialized AI solutions including digital therapeutics, and the project has been structured to help companies establish themselves in the market through building clinical evidence and obtaining regulatory approvals.

The six selected consortiums include public and regional medical institutions from various regions across the country, including Chungcheong, Gangwon, Gyeongsang, Jeolla, and Jeju. The consortiums presented operational plans for expansion through linkage with local governments and public health centers.
